Google Adds Direct Hotel Booking to AI Search Tool

Google is rolling out direct hotel booking and flight price tracking within its AI Mode search tool in the United States. The search giant added agentic hotel booking to the feature following a pilot program, allowing users to search for accommodations in natural language and compare options with reviews before booking via Google Pay. The hotel or online travel agency remains the merchant of record, meaning they handle customer service and payment processing. Inventory partners for the new booking feature include Expedia, Booking.com, Hilton, and Marriott, among others. Google has emphasized that results are currently organic, with no ads or paid rankings.

Tracking Prices and Miles

In addition to hotel bookings, Google AI Mode now offers a price-tracking feature similar to Google Flights. Users can receive in-chat alerts about price changes for roughly 300 partner airlines and travel sites in 180 countries and territories, excluding the European Union. This allows travelers to build itineraries before making a purchase on a partner’s website. The system also supports a points and miles pricing option available globally, covering partners like American Airlines and Hilton. The company lists additional carriers and hotel brands, including Accor, Hyatt, LATAM, and Lufthansa Group, as coming soon. Actual flight booking remains unavailable within the AI Mode interface, though Google states it is still exploring the feature for the future.

Climate Perception Shifts

Extreme heat is beginning to alter how travelers perceive summer vacations in the Mediterranean. A new Perception of Climate Index (PCI) analysis from The Data Appeal Company and Almaviva Group tracks heat trends in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and Greece from 2023 through summer 2026. The report notes that while heat usually causes only temporary dips in perception that rebound once temperatures normalize, repeated and unusually early 2026 heatwaves are eroding the region’s broader climate appeal.

France is showing the clearest warning sign, with a May–July 2026 PCI score of 77.2. This figure is significantly lower than Portugal (93.5), Italy (91.6), Spain (90.4), and Greece (89.9). Spain and Greece show resilience but remain highly reactive to heat spikes. Portugal demonstrates that traveler expectations can build resilience, averaging 91.1 and recovering from a major drop in 2025. The data also reveals that domestic travelers in France and Spain react most strongly to extreme heat, while UK and US travelers tend to remain comparatively tolerant.
